DAVE BRUBECK Oratorio: The Light in the Wilderness

In 1967 jazz great Dave Brubeck broke up his famous quartet to fulfill his ambitions as a composer of music for the concert hall. In the following year, the fascinating The Light in the Wilderness became the first oratorio penned by Brubeck. The 74th season of Masterworks Chorale concludes with acclaimed baritone Philip Lima joining conductor Steven Karidoyanes, the Masterworks chorus, and an instrumental ensemble complete with jazz combo in a rare performance of this dramatic music. The event is preceded by a Pre-Concert talk by Laura Prichard.

In celebration of this concert, the Brubeck estate has granted a license to Masterworks Chorale to produce a numbered, limited-edition commemorative tile by artist Stephanie Osser to benefit the Chorale.
This performance is an Awareness Through Music event, an outreach initiative of Masterworks Chorale. The local charity partner is Rediscovery, a self-sufficient division of the Justice Resource Institute in Waltham MA. <http://www.rediscoveryinc.org
