Friday, November 13, 2015 · 8:00pm FAURÉ Cantique de Jean Racine Featuring: |
The first concert of the 76th season pairs two much-loved composers. The Chorale, soloists and orchestra perform music guaranteed to transport you – Faure’s sublime Requiem as well as his exquisite Cantique de Jean Racine. As a fiery contrast, the program also includes Handel’s dramatic Psalm setting for chorus, soloists and orchestra, Dixit Dominus. |
Friday, March 11, 2016 · 8:00pm IRVING FINE Choruses from Alice in Wonderland Featuring: |
|
This concert is a real celebration of the child in all of us! The Chorale, soloists and young choristers from Youth pro Musica perform John Rutter’s most recent major work for chorus and orchestra, Mass of the Children. It’s beautiful music that interpolates traditional texts with relevant excerpts from several English poets. On a more whimsical note, the concert begins with choruses inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, composed by acclaimed 20th century Boston composer Irving Fine. |
Friday, May 13, 2016 · 8:00pm BACH Mass in B Minor Featuring: Teresa Wakim, soprano
|

Never performed during the composer’s lifetime, Johann Sebastian Bach’s magnificent Mass in B Minor has become universally considered the ultimate example of artistic expression and achievement. Any performance of this music is an occasion to run out and hear it live! Masterworks Chorale last performed it in May 2007 during Steven Karidoyanes’ inaugural season as Chorale conductor. With nine seasons of many concerts together, including performances of Bach’s St John and St Matthew Passions, the Requiems of Verdi and Mozart, and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, this B Minor Mass presentation promises to be heartfelt and extraordinary. |
Karidoyanes elicited some unusual inner details during quieter moments… just getting through the Missa in one piece is an achievement in itself, and Masterworks did far more than that. The choral sound was warm and richly textured.
